Abstract
This publication summarizes activities that took place during the Workshop on saltwater fish farming in Québec, held in Grande-Rivière on March 18 and 19, 1998. This workshop, organized jointly by the Ministere de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ - Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Québec) and the Centre aquicole marin de Grande-Rivière (CAMGR Grand-Rivière saltwater aquaculture centre) in collaboration with the Centre spécialisé des pêches (CSP Fisheries Specialization Centre), Université du Québec à Rimouski (uQAR - University of Québec in Rimouski) and the Société de développement de l'industrie maricole (SODIM - Mariculture industry development board), invited and brought together some 50 experts and participants representing governments, institutions and the private sector who demonstrated a common interest in developing the aquaculture industry in eastern Québec. The primary goal of this workshop was to stimulate reflection on the future of saltwater fish farming in the Québec context and so, help guide research and development activities for this type of farming in Québec, particularly in the following areas of intervention: the complete aquaculture cycle, seeding and grow-out. At the end of this workshop, a follow-up committee was created to help identify promising avenues of development, and to coordinate research and development efforts
