Abstract
The sea scallop (Placopecten magellanicus) research program on farming and restocking the species - phase II (REPERE II) is a five-year R&D program that began in 1999. The results of the original REPERE program were used to draw up phase II of the program which is designed to bring scallop farming operations to a commercial level. Although it will continue to work on restocking Magdalen Islands waters, the REPERE II program will take a closer look at the problems that face scallop farming in all areas of maritime Québec, and at suspension farming techniques used to grow scallops to commercial size. An action plan identifying priority R&D work has been drawn up for the 1999-2003 period. This plan also identifies other problems that will have to be solved to ensure development of Québec's scallop farming industry.
