Abstract
The North Sea is historically one of the busiest shipping routes in the world. The Spanish Armada, the heavy-loaded ships of the Dutch East-India Company, and German submarines have written World history on these waters. The North Sea is at the same time a very dangerous place as well. Heavy winter storms and treacherous sand banks have caused many ships to end their journey too soon as a wreck. Therefore, the Belgian coastal waters are a gigantic wreck site. This video tells the story of the discovery and scientific research of an unidentified wreck in front of Nieuwpoort (Belgium). The archives of the Dutch East-India Company are consulted, and laboratory results of research on artefacts from the wreck are analysed. There is still doubt if this wreck is a Spanish Armada ship or a Dutch merchant from the 18th century.
