Abstract
    This is the first comprehensive catalogue, with a primary systematic and distributional bibliography, of the living marine Bivalvia of China. One thousand, one hundred and seventy-two species are arranged in systematic order reflecting, as presently understood, the phylogenetic relationships of the supraspecific taxa, together with approximately 3500 binomina which fall into synonymy. Bathymetric, substrate, and geographic distributional data are given. The following nomenclatorial changes are pro-posed: Chlamys nantiensis nom. nov. for Pecten laetus Gould, 1861 not Gould, 1851; Corbula sinensis nom. nov. for Corbula cuneata Hinds, 1843 not Say, 1824; Meiocardia samarangiae nom. nov. for Isocardia tetragona Adams & Reeve, 1850 not Koch & Dunker, 1837; Musculus chinensis nom. nov. for Modiolaria cuneata Gou1d, 1861 not Sowerby, 1818 not Goldfuss, 1837; Nitidotellina dunkeri nom. nov. for Tellina nitidula Dunker, 1860 not Deshayes, 1857; Scapharca guangdongensis nom. nov. for Arca anomala Reeve, 1843 not Eichwald, 1830; Scapharca sativa nom. nov. for Arca subcrenata Lischke, 1869 not Michelotti, 1961; Solen xishana nom. nov. for Solen gracilis Philippi, 1847 not Sowerby, 1844; Spondylus punicus nom. nov. for Spondylus coccineus Lamarck, 1819 not Schreibers, 1793.
