Abstract
Symbiotic large foraminifers are at their extreme Northern range limit in French Mediterranean Sea. A population of Sorites orbiculus from Villefranche-sur-Mer is described and characterized by biometric study. The CaCO3 production is estimated to be 150 g.m-².year-¹. Up to one quarter of the specimens display an abnormal morphology. This is related to the same phenomenon observed in association with recent worldwide mass bleaching in reefs, whose origin is controversial.
