Abstract
Infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV) was positively identified as the cause of an epizootic in rainbow trout fry in a Scottish trout farm. The virus was demonstrated in thin-sections of pancreatic tissue from affected fish and ultrafiltered extracts of such fish after passage through tissue culture reproduced the disease when added to water containing healthy trout try. The identity of the virus was confirmed by a serum neutralization test with anti-IPNV antiserum.
