Abstract
Marine boring- and fouling organisms have been a problem for society from ancient times. In this article problems, biology and ecology of the main animals are treated in a popularized form. Examples of boring organisms are Teredo megotara, and Limnoria limnoria. Main examples of fouling organisms are Balanus improvisus, Mytilus edulis, Ciona intestinalis, and Pomatoceros triqueter. The prevention of boring and fouling organisms is briefly discussed.
