Abstract
The annual variations in vertical distribution and density of B. pilosa and B. sarsi were investigated on a locality in the near tideless inner Danish waters. The main trends in distribution could be explained by variations in water movement, temperature, desiccation and oxygen content of the interstitial water. Other factors, including permanent water cover and rather low and changing salinities seemed to be of minor importance. Predation was probably the major source of mortality. Mortality mainly took place in the reproductive period.
