Abstract
We report the discovery during CALSUB cruise of submarine features, including series of pillars and microtables closely related to Fe-Mn deposits entrapped into a soft or weakly cemented hemipelagic ooze, from a Tertiary volcanic ridge setting off New Caledonia. Such features seem to be closely related to hydrothermal circulation through calcareous sedimentation, as a consequence of the volcanic activity of Loyalty ridge during the Miocene time.
