The names include all the fauna of economic or potential interest to fisheries from all the oceans and freshwaters of the world. The dictionary contains every category of name: local, vernacular and common, with official names (names used by international organizations and institutions) stated as the first name for each species. The original spelling as taken from a given source has been used. The appendices comprise a table of catch units and a list of abbreviations of international institutions, organizations, programmes and other fishery and related terms. The dictionary is intended to be of assistance to all those involved with fish or fish industry in everyday practice as well as in translating scientific articles.
