Abstract
Cover textThis is a practical guide to sand dune management. It looks first at sand dune formation, basic ecology, and the principles of management for conservation. Following chapters give detailed information on techniques, including sand dune contouring and stabilisation, management of access by path construction and fencing, and methods of re-vegetating eroded dunes. Methods of managing established duneland vegetation away from the shoreline are also discussed, together with techniques to encourage the survival of the unique dune flora. Tools, safety and the organisation of volunteers are covered, and Anne Roper's clear diagrams illustrate many of the techniques.
