Abstract
The advantages and limitations of the ice record are discussed and compared with the oceanic record. Three main aspects of the Antarctic ice record over the last climate cycle are presented: the evolution of atmospheric temperature in Antarctica, the evolution of two important greenhouse gases (CO2 and CH4) and the evolution of various aerosols of different origins. The results indicates the close interactions between biochemical cycles, atmospheric composition and climate.
