Abstract
Leaves of similar morphology and condition release a similar quantity of soluble organic material. However, the quantity of material that precipitates, the rate of precipitation and the size of particles that result depend on leaf sp and water chemistry. A microbial component and an abiotic component are apparent In the precipitates; the latter bears a similarity to particulate material from seawater and soils.
