Abstract
An investigation on the malacological fauna was performed in June 1970 in the region of the Westhoek, which is located between the North Sea and the Yser-Polders. Its final purpose was to establish the relation between this fauna and the one discovered in the Polders of the surroundings of Furnes. 32 sampling areas were chosen in the most typical biotopes. The samples were taken and treated according to operating processes set up in the laboratory for definite studies on the populations of Lymnaea truncatula MÜLLER. Large amounts of living molluscs and empty shells were collected by these processes. They allowed to establish malacological surveys about 4 types of sites : channels edge, drain - ditches, old dunes, and particular habitats along roads and at foot of trees. 71 different species were collected during this investigation. They represent the half of the number of mollusc species known in Belgium. Their distribution among the samples of the various origins is discussed.
