Abstract
    This paper presents an analysis of the medieval boatbuilding traditions found in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and northeast France, and the various different vessels the produced in response to changing resources and economic developments. This study is based primarily on the physical remains of ships and boats, with occasional references to the iconographic and historical record.
