Abstract |
The Mysidacea of Antarctic and subantarctic waters are fairly well known owing to the work of the Swedish Antarctic expedition (Hansen, 1913), the Chilean expedition of the Lund University (Holmquist, 1957) and chiefly to the expedition of the "Discovery". Quite complete data on the Mysidacea of these regions can be found in the study of 0. Tattersall (1955) which is based on the collections of the "Discovery". The collection of Impids of the Soviet Antarctic expedition does not add anything new with respect to Antarctic fauna. However, they make possible a definition of the geographical distribution and the taxonomic position of several formerly known species. A total of 18 species which are listed below were found. Synonymy is mentioned only when nomenclatory changes are proposed. For the other species a complete synonymy is given in the above-mentioned work of 0. Tattersall. The collections were made with various gear: midwater trawl (DRT), ring trawl (RT), conical plankton net 100 cm in diameter (KS100) and 140 cm (KS140), anchovy net (HS), ichthyological net with 160 cm diameter (ICHT160), Bogorov-Rass net(BR) and Sigsby-Gorbunov trawl. Since all the hauls were oblique nothing can be known about the depth range of the different species. In the text below, the depth of the hauls is indicated according to the length of cable. The positions of the stations in which Mysidacea were collected are listed at the end of this paper. |
