Abstract
This investigation focuses on offshore wind resource assessment in Morocco using an integrated methodology consisting of Geographic Information System and the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process. Following the published literature and regional necessities, a set of suitability criteria is defined including eight different site selection criteria and six exclusion factors. A weighted overlay analysis is conducted in order to map the ideal locations for offshore wind energy development in Morocco. The study results highlight a wide offshore area that is most suited for wind farm development. Three high suitable areas are shortlisted within the Atlantic Ocean boundary of Morocco, in proximity to the cities of Essaouira, Boujdour, and Dakhla. The three selected areas are capable of generating around 13.3 GW of electrical power. The suggested methodology can be of immense aid for locating the most suitable areas for offshore wind farms in different regions having equivalent geo-factors.
