North Sea Award

Every year VLIZ awards a prize at the VLIZ Marine Science Day to promote innovative fundamental or applied research. This research has to focus on the study of the structure or processes of the North Sea, with special attention to the shallow coastal areas and estuaries of the Southern Bight and the English Channel.

The VLIZ North Sea Award is presented annually to a researcher (or research group) active and residing in a country by the North Sea. The prize amounts to € 1,000 and is indivisible.

The prize is aimed at rewarding recent and original scientific work that contributes to the innovative fundamental and applied research on the structure, operation and sustainable management of the ecosystem of the North Sea, with special attention to the shallow coastal areas and estuaries of the Southern Bight and the English Channel. The contribution’s level has to be post-graduate or post-doctoral.

The VLIZ North Sea Award 2017 was awarded on Wednesday 21 March 2018 on the occasion of the annual VLIZ Marine Science Day at the MEC Staf Versluys, Kapelstraat 76, Bredene.
