VLIZ recruits: Team Leader / Project Manager Data Centre - "Open Science"-team

VLIZ is looking for a Team Leader / Project Manager for the Open Science-team of the Data Centre. Take the opportunity to grow together with VLIZ towards a world-class marine institute.

Your tasks

  • You coordinate the Open Science Cloud-initiatives to which VLIZ contributes (e.g. EOSC Life, ENVRI FAIR)
  • You coordinate the VLIZ participation in the LifeWatch ESFRI.
  • You manage and supervise your team of 3-5 employees.
  • You work together with the VLIZ IT-division regarding deployment and adoption of cloud-related developments.
  • You take responsibility for the technical development of marine databases and metadatabases managed at VLIZ.
  • You take on the role of ambassador to the outside world through networking, and promote the reputation of VLIZ as an (inter)national contact point for marine scientific data management.

Your profile

  • Master (or PhD) degree in the field of marine sciences, engineering or informatics.
  • Need to have:
    • Experience with (biological or life science) data management.
    • Knowledge of and experience with cloud technology, e-infrastructures and data science.
    • Experience with managing international projects.
    • Good understanding of the marine research landscape in Flemish, Belgian and European context.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills in English.
    • Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills.
  • Nice to have:
    • Knowledge of the EU Open Science Cloud an FAIR Data policies.
    • Experience with technical development of data systems and databases.
    • Willing to work in an international context and occasionally work abroad.
