Abstract
The prions of the genus Pachyptila are a group of small petrels of the Southern Ocean which feed upon small organisms caught at the water surface. Many birds are caught by predatory Great Skuas Catharacta skua , which consume most of the body leaving the wings, and later regurgitate the hard parts as a compact pellet. The authors happended by chance to inspect one of these pellet composed of distinctive prion bones and feathers, and were started to find among them 33 distinctive colourless plastic pellets of the type reported from New Zealand beaches (Gregory, 1977) and the waters off South Africa (Morris, 1980).
