Beschrijving
PINK - Dragonfly (Odonata) monitoring for the permanent surveillance of coastal areas in Flanders, Belgium is a sampling event dataset published by the Research Institute for Nature and Forest (INBO). The dataset contains over 2.500 dragonfly (Odonata) observations sampled between 2008 and 2014 at the Belgian coast. The dataset includes 34 species. meer

The data are collected for the project PINK (Permanente Inventarisatie van de Natuurreservaten aan de Kust), which was commissioned by the Agency for Nature and Forest in 2007. The project started with the aim of mapping the natural values on the coast in a more systematic way. A first 3-year phase (PINK I) ran from 2008 to 2010, in which the methodology was set up and an initial assessment was conducted. A second phase (PINK II) ran from 2012 to 2014, which was a continuation of the main components of PINK I, with special attention for invasive species and grasshoppers. A third phase (PINK III) is running from 2014 to 2018. This dataset contains Odonata occurrences observed during PINK I and PINK II.
Geographic coverage: Coastal areas in Flanders, Belgium.
Taxonomic coverage: All species in this dataset are dragonflies (Odonata). The top 3 recorded species are Ischnura elegans (16%), Coenagrion puella (9%), Orthetrum cancellatum (8%).
Sampling methods: Every pond was monitored 3 times in every season, with a sampling event typically taking 15 minutes. These counts were conducted at the end of May/beginning of June and/or half July/end Augustus. Larger ponds, surrounded by much vegetation, needed about 20-25 minutes for a similar inventory and the two largest ponds would take an hour. For all observations, individuals were counted and phenology and sex were recorded if possible, as well as reproduction behavior. Counts were mostly conducted between 10 and 16 hrs. Separate observations were recorded in http://waarnemingen.be.
Study extent: In PINK I (2007-2010), 141 ponds or waters were visited, at least one time. 5 ponds in the Noordduinen were inventoried on a yearly basis. About 60 ponds along the Belgian coast were monitored for Odonata during the period 2012-2014 (Pink II).
Quality Control: All records are verified.
Purpose: The PINK data are collected in order to to map biodiversity values in nature reserves in coastal areas. This dataset contains the Odonata subset.
Issues with the dataset can be reported here.
The publication of this dataset was supported by the INBO as part of the Flemish contribution to LifeWatch.
