Nutrient analyses of interstitial porewater of top 5cm sediment
(Marine Biology Section)
A Reineck boxcorer collects the surficial sediment. A perpex core (diam. 2.54cm) is placed in the centre of the core to sample the top 5cm of the sediment. When collecting the sample care is taken that the sediment is not disturbed (eg. rising air bubbles or collapse of core). All water in the perpex core above the sediment is removed by means of a syringe. The top five centimetres is placed in a small container and immediately stored at – 20°C.
