Abstract
The objective of this project is to detect the presence and the concentration of polluted gas compounds in the atmosphere using the airborne MWIR and LWIR imaging spectroscopy data. AHS-160 (Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner) data will be collected over the chemical industry situated in the port of Antwerp, during two operational periods on the same day. The airborne data will be calibrated and verified using numerous ground truth measurements that will be collected using field thermal imaging reflectometer (SOC 400T) (Surface Optics Corporation) and traditional in-situ measurements collected in AQMSs (Air Quality Management Services) situated in the port. The image processing will use the non-linear absorption features of a target gases spectral signature coupled with the extended Orthogonal Background Suppression (OBS) technique to separate column density and thermal radiance contrast product and obtain absolute plume column density and plume temperature.

Using the extended OBS technique, the concentration of the pollutants SO2, NO, NO2, O3 and PM10 will be obtained over the port of Antwerp and will be mapped using GIS system. We will also produce change detection mapping of the morning gas pollutant concentrations relatively to the afternoon concentration.
