Abstract
The associated fauna of epibenthic organisms forms a major component of the high biodiversity of coral reefs, which includes many shrimp species and other crustaceans (Stella et al. 2011; Hoeksema et al. 2012). Commensal shrimps of the subfamily Pontoniinae, comprising just over 600 species (De Grave and Fransen 2011), have radiated over many of these epibenthic organisms, with many taxa showing predominantly a strict host preference for ascidians, bivalve molluscs, cnidarians, echinoderms or sponges (De Grave 2001).
