Abstract
Global scale studies resolve very badly the exchanges occurring at the oceans' boundaries where the dynamics is considerably influenced by intricated non-linear shelf processes. The determination of the fluxes at the oceans' margins requires the “local" application of sophisticated shelf sea models. This paper describes briefly the GHER 3D mathematical model and its application to the Northern Bering Sea and shows how the results can be used to assess the fluxes and transports from the North Pacific Ocean to the Arctic Mediterranean Sea and, ultimately, the Atlantic Ocean.
