Het Institut des Sciences de la Vie (ISV) van de Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) verricht biologisch onderzoek met behulp van moleculaire en cellulaire methodes. Het onderzoek wordt toegepast op dieren, planten, micro-organismen en biomoleculen. Binnen de onderzoeksgroep ‘Biology of Nutrition and Environmental Toxicology’ worden de onderstaande mariene thema’s bestudeerd:
- De invloed van polluenten zoals PCBs op antioxidant-enzymen in de spieren en lever van diepzeevissen;
- Antioxidant mechanismen van dieren in de nabijheid van hydrothermale bronnen en andere diepzeevissen;
- De toxicokinetische en fysiologische effecten van organische contaminanten bij mariene zoogdieren zoals zeehonden;
- De effecten van meervoudige stress (voeding en vervuiling) in aquatische organismen, van een moleculaire tot een ecosysteembenadering.
