Het onderzoek van deze vakgroep is sterk uitgebouwd rond een aantal onderzoekslijnen: bewegingsleer, inspanningsfysiologie en trainingsleer, sportmanagement, fysieke activiteit, fitheid en gezondheid en didactiek van de lichamelijke opvoeding.
Het marien onderzoek (onderzoeksgroep Exercise and Environmental Physiology) concentreert zich op de fysiologie en epidemiologie van letsels in watersporten zoals roeien, zeilen en kitesurfen, alsook op het effect van oceaancondities (koud water, golven, wind, etc.) op de menselijke fysiologie (thermoregulatorische respons) en de veiligheid op het strand en de zee (verdrinking, reanimatie, redden).
