Repairing nets
Description Repairing nets, Ostend harbour, which is one of the largest fishing ports in Belgium.

Fishing used to be a major source of income for the inhabitants of Ostend, and like many other ports it boasted a thriving herring industry, but commercial fishing started to decline in the 1990s.  Efforts are continually made to keep the character of the port alive.
"If you take the fishing from Ostend you will have nothing left. I'm seeing fishing declining and I'm sure it will disappear if we don't do something now!"
"Ostend is not a port, it is a city at sea."
Willy Versluys, fishing fleet owner, Ostend.
