Percentage of second and holiday homes excluding 'Greater London'

  • Definition : Percentage of second and holiday homes from the total number of housing (dwellings), by municipality (district, sub-regions except Greater London), in any given year.
  • Calculation : Number of second and holiday homes divided by total number of homes (dwellings) multiplied by 100 (France and The Netherlands). In the UK, 50% of the number of vacant dwellings (recorded during Census) were added to the number of second homes to calculate the number of second and holiday homes. In Belgium, the number of second homes are estimated by (total number of housing units+ known holiday homes) minus (total number of households + a 3% for vacancy friction).
