Can't argue with this very general definition!

Most of the features called bedforms are undulations in the relief of the seabed (as with the ripples and sand waves cited) but beforms can also be alternating regions of coarser and finer sediment grains (the 'sorted bedforms' discussed, for example, by Murray and Thieler (2004; Continental Shelf Research, 24, 295) or of larger and smaller grain densities and colours.

This is a useful overview of the Argus system with the great benefit of a large list of papers for further reading, though only up to 2007.

There are two places where what appear to be typographical errors may cause confusion. I assume that in the last line of the penultimate paragraph of the ‘Monitoring Process’ section, the word ‘right’ should read ‘bright’. And that the first word of the following paragraph should be ‘plan’, not ‘plain’.

I was initially dubious that the detail in this article, including the extensive equations, was necessary or useful. No-one is likely to embark on image analysis on the basis of this article alone. On further thought, however, it does provide an insight into the mathematics for those who use the standard analysis tools based on them.

The article does not include discussion of the accuracy of the linear transformations or the implications of the assumption of a distortion free lens. Some of these issues are addressed by Holman and Stanley (2007; Coastal Engineering 54, 477-491).

It would be helpful to have a more complete caption for figure 2, particularly to identify the site. The quantitative values given in the text following the figure (‘wave heights bigger than 1.5m’ and ‘NAP -0.60 m’) are clearly site-specific.
