Abstract
Shortly after the completion of the middle-section of the dyke protecting the Probstei-Lowland (easterly part of Kiel Outer Fjord) against floods erosion processes increased in the nearshore area. That's why a beach nourishment was carried out along with a geological research program to determine the incorporation of the artificial material into the natural sediment cycle and to estimate the reaction of the nearshore environment due to this measure. It could be seen that fine-sand which mainly builds up the nearshore bars and which was the main component of the flushed sand, was completely wasted and the former conditions developed again after one year.
