Abstract
This paper is inspired by the geohydrologic conditions prevailing in the western part of the Netherlands. The distribution and seepage of saline groundwater in such areas is changing due to the reclamation of so-called deep polders. The ultimate situation is studied in a highly schematized, one-dimensional model. To this aim some principles have been worked out and a calculation method has been developed. The results indicate interesting tendencies. Suggestions are made for further studies such as more complicated models and the study of transitional stages.
