Abstract
The historical part of this work attempts to explain the development of the ideas concerning the nature and the classification of the appendicularians as well as their place among the metazoans. Errors and confusions which arose and continue to occur in many papers are pointed out. The second part gives the classification proposed, with the synonyms of the taxa accepted. Then, keys of determination are given. References devoted to the topic, an author index and a systematic index complete this work.
