Distribution Around 1890, Petricola has been imported together with the American oyster in the south-east of Great-Britain (Stresemann, 1970), from where the species was spread out in West-Europe. In 1905 the species has been seen for the first time in the Netherlands (Kaas & Ten Broeck, 1942) and was already observed at the German and Danish North Sea coasts by 1906. [details]
