Taxonomy Podonereis is a misspelling of Podenereis Blainville, 1818. Both names were published by Blainville, in 1818. The first name to appear was Podenereis, in a French written version of the presentation helded by H. de Blainville in June 1817 at the Société Philomatique (Paris), on the classification of the 'vers à sang rouge'('red blood worms'), and published in the Bulletin des Sciences of the same Society. The German translation of the same work was later published in Isis oder Encyclopädische Zeitung von Oken, where the name of the new genus was misspelled as Podonereis. This last misspelled name has been the one normally used by most authors (e.g.: Hartman, 1959; Nygren, 2004). [details]
