Coastal habitats and ecosystems of transitional waters are those that span the zone between the land and the sea. They are all periodically covered by tidal waters and may include transitions to wetlands where sea water is significantly diluted by fresh water from the land.

The habitats are:

Salt marshes

Rocky shores

Sediment shorelines


The priciple ecosystem is:

Estuaries and tidal rivers where freshwater from the land mixes with tidal sea water.
