Seminar: Fossils in the North Sea

During the ice ages, the North Sea was not a sea but a dry tundra plain intersected by wide rivers. Fishermen and sand exploitation vessels regularly retrieve fossils from this rich 'buried' past that they bring ashore: remains of mammoths, walruses and other mammals, bones of the extinct great auk or other birds, fish remains, fossil shells, etc. The seminar on Friday 14 October 2022 will put focus on this rich past and its remains that can find on the beach today. Organisation by the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), in collaboration with various experts. Seminar in Dutch - check the Dutch pages of our website.
