Several parameters like vegetation, macrobenthos, aquatic birds and sediments are monitored in a standardised way along the estuary between Ghent and the Dutch-Belgian border including the Durme and the Rupel. The vegetation is monitored by means of 200 permanent quadrats (PQs), scattered along the Zeeschelde, of which a vegetation survey (Londo scale) is made every three years. Vegetation maps are constructed on the basis of aerial photographs in combination with verification in the field.
