Abstract
During a visit to the Bay of Heist we experienced a historical low tide, about 75 cm below the astronomical forecast. This exceptional situation was created by a strong wind from the south. We could investigate boulders of the eastern jetty of the harbour of Zeebrugge and the seabed in the near environs that normally never comes dry. This revealed some very special and rare species; e.g. the hydroid Sertularella ellisii ellisii, the bryozoans Alcyonidium hydrocoalitum attached to Tubularia indivisa and Alcyonidium condylocinereum attached to an empty doublet of the American jacknife Ensis directus in situ.
