Abstract
It is well known that sea levels are affected by changes in land ice extent—for example, a loss of land ice is generally associated with a rise in global ocean levels. This chapter provides an overview of the processes through which the melting of land ice leads to geographic patterns in global sea level due to deformation of the solid Earth as well as changes in the Earth's gravity field and rotation. Recent advancements in this field of research related to better understanding the Earth's deep interior and past ice sheet evolution to climate change are briefly reviewed
