Abstract
The Visean of the British Isles contains one of the richest foraminiferal faunas of Western Europe, in contrast to the Tournaisian which is relatively poor. The present atlas, which is conceived as a stratigraphic tool , is arranged by stages, zones and formations. It includes analytic keys which take account of publications up to mid 1979. Typical assemblages of foraminifers, abundantly figured, allow easy identification of the stages recently defined in the British Isles. Many comparisons are made with the classic Belgian sections.
