Abstract
Columbarium antecedens nom. nov. is proposed here as a replacement to correct the primary homonymy Fusus heberti Briart & Cornet, 1877 from the Danian (Lower Paleocene) of France, Belgium, Poland, Crimea and Ukraine, non Fusus heberti Watelet, 1851, a species from the Cuisian (Ypresian, Lower Eocene) of Paris Basin here assigned at genus Jania Bellardi, 1873. The genus Jania, considered by mistake as a junior primary homonym of Jania Lamouroux, 1812, a red algae, is rehabilited. The new name Janiopsis proposed as a replacement by ROVERETO in 1899 is thus unnecessary and invalid. A new species is described: Jania colridusensis nov. sp.
