Abstract
Qualitative statistical shell characteristics of Mauritia arabicaare studied using 911 shells in order to check intraspecific variation in the species and to learn the taxonomie identity of different arabica populations. This study confirms that three arabica subspecies can be recognized: Marabica arabica (Linnaeus, 1758), M. arabica grayana Schilder, 1930 andM. arabica immanis Schilder & Schilder, 1938. The subspecific rank of other five arabica populations: M. arabica dilacerata, M. arabica asiatica, M. arabica niger, M. arabica westralis and M arabica gibba Coen, 1949 is not confirmed.
