| Abstract |
A histological study of ovaries and the survey of 3 indexes (RGS, RHS, K) were done to establish the spawning season of Arnoglossus species in Douarnenez Bay: A. thori spawns in April-June, A. laterna in May-September, and A. imperialis in spring. In the three species, vitellogenesis takes place in only one batch of oocytes and the end of maturation is characterized by the formation of a continuous and hyaline mass of yolk. A. laterna sprawns nearly the whole of the ripe eggs; it is not the case for A. thori which, after spawning, keeps in the ovaries hyaline and vitellogenetic oocytes that degenerate and are resorbed. The mean relative fecundity of A. thori reach 3900, that of A. laterna 2600. |
