The Fish Auction in Le Guilvinec, France
The Fish Auction in Le Guilvinec, France
Description Le Guilvinec has the largest fish auction in the Bigouden region of Brittany. Statistics from previous years indicate that approximately 15,000 tonnes of fish is landed annually with a total value around 56 million euro, although this has decreased steadily since 2004.
It normally runs from Monday to Friday, holding two, sometimes three auctions a day.  However, the violent storms in early 2014 prevented boats from going to sea; consequently there were no fish landed, and so no income for the many who rely on the industry.
