Sustainable tourism

Definition : Extent (as number) of tourist accommodation with EU Eco-label and Ratio of number of overnight stays in coastal municipalities to the number of 'coastal' residents, compared to the ratio in the wider sub-region.
Description : The European eco-labeling scheme for tourist accommodation works towards adopting an efficient environmental management and use of natural resources in the tourism sector.The ratio of overnight stays to the number of residents is an indication of the social impact of tourism in a local community or seaside town.Ideally, both measurements need seasonal data to study spreading of the tourist season over the year.
