Amount of marine and coastal litter

Definition : Number of items of litter collected per length (1km) of shoreline
Description : The number of debris items collected on stretches of surveyed beaches by volunteer campaigns is highly variable according to the climate conditions, the presence of neighbouring disturbing activities and the search effort developed by volunteer teams. Still, trends in the number of litter items and composition of type of litter, should become evident over longer periods of time, if the survey effort is conducted in similar ways over the years.
