The parasitic copepod, Sphyrion lumpi, causes a significant host response in the beaked redfish, Sebastes mentella. The response is characterised by granulomatous tissue surrounding the attachment site, with infiltration of leucocytes and degeneration of myofibrils. A whole SSU rDNA locus of S. lumpi was successfully sequenced, expectedly inferring its phylogenetic position within the fish parasitic Copepoda Glade.
