In recent years, the cultivation of marine copepods has received great importance as a live food in marine aquaculture, the Oíthona genus, is almost certainly the most plentiful in the world's oceans the objective of the present research work was to evaluate the effect of salinity on growth population, development and reproduction of Oithona nana. O. nana copepod culture was performed with five different salinities (15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 psu), under controlled conditions (28±1°C, 125 lux, 12:12 light: dark), with feeding at Isochrysis galbana microalgae base at a continuous density of 100 000 cel/ ml. At the end of the experiment, Oithona nana presented significant statistical evidence on population growth, the highest population density was corresponding to 25 psu (3634.75 ± 869.44 individuals), obtaining 67.4% copepodites (2451.50 ± 675.43 individuals), however, a total density of 1305.50 ± 396.99 individuals (35 psu) was obtained. In addition, the shortest development time by stage of O. nana, nauplii (3.25 ± 0.08 days), copepodites (2.25 ± 0.03 days) and mature adult copepods (1.38 ± 0.14 days) achieving total development 6.88 ± 0.23 days (15 psu) unlike treatment with 35 psu, from nauplius to mature copepod in 9.71 ± 0.41 days; male/ female copepod ratio 1.33: 1; the number of eggs obtained per ovigerous female was 27 to 30 eggs / female and the shortest spawning time was achieved with 15 psu (13.13 ± 1.65 hours). It is concluded that the optimal salinity to cultivate Oithona nana is between 15 to 25 psu, since it favorably affects the development, reproduction and population growth. Key words: Cyclopoida copepod, Oithona nana, salinity.
