The article describes the spermatozoa of the species stained with different techniques. This description becomes inadvertently the species description, because any taxonomic disclaimer that the species name used has to be regarded as a nomen nudum at this stage is missing. Zelinka (1912) did not mention any locations, so a type locality and type specimens do not exist. There is no mentioning of any locality where the specimens originated from. This means that there is no type locality.

Etymology The derivation of the name is taken from Zelinka (1928, p. 246):
The species was named E. capitata derived from Latin capitatus, provided with a head, because of its "eigentümliche kopfartige Erweiterung, die das Gebiet des III. und IV. Zoniten statt der üblichen Verschmälerung erfährt" ( [= specific head-like extension, which is located in the area of the III. and IV. zonite instead of the usual diminuition]. [details]

Synonymy Synonymy according to Karling (1954, p. 191):
"Ich schliesse mich aber den Autoren an, die in dem Fehlen oder Vorhandensein von Augen keinen Genus-Charakter erblicken (Remane, p. 345; Nyholm, p. 4; Lang, p. 10) und vereine daher die Gattungen Echinoderella und Echinoderes unter dem letztgenannten Namen."
